Williams, Zicari named Mountaineers Athletes of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. – Tiffany Williams (Hamilton, Ont.) of the No. 4 nationally ranked women's basketball team and Dean Zicari (Burlington, Ont.) of men's volleyball have been named the Mohawk Mountaineers Athletes of the Week for the period of November 10-16.

Williams came off the bench early in Saturday's game against the Fanshawe Falcons with Mohawk trailing 8-2 just over three minutes in. The third-year guard provided a spark with her defensive energy, helping fuel a 6-0 Mountaineers run to tie the game. In her second stint, with Mohawk up 22-20, Williams contributed four points during a 10-0 run that stretched the lead to 12. She finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes as the Mountaineers secured a 74-61 win.

Zicari turned in a career performance against the Fanshawe Falcons despite Mohawk's 3-0 loss. All three sets were tightly contested, with the Mountaineers falling by three points in the first, two in the second and four in the third. Zicari kept Mohawk competitive throughout, posting a career-high 20 kills and adding seven digs on the defensive end.

Athlete of the Week honours are presented by Booster Juice. Located in the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre, Booster Juice is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
