HAMILTON, Ont. – Maddie Anderson (Whitby, Ont.) of the No. 4 nationally ranked women's basketball team and Alex Jurak (St. Catharines, Ont.) of men's volleyball have been named the Mohawk Mountaineers Athletes of the Week for the period of November 17-23.
Maddie Anderson
Year: 5
Position: Guard
Maddie Anderson has earned athlete of the week honours for the second time in three weeks. Her latest performance was not only her best of the season, but her strongest in a Mohawk jersey. Anderson scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including four three-pointers, to lead the Mountaineers to a 75-60 win over the No. 7 nationally ranked Humber Hawks. The Mountaineers are now the lone undefeated team in the OCAA West Division. Anderson's 31 points surpass her previous career high of 30 set in the 2024-25 season, and she now ranks second in the OCAA in points per game at 17.4. Against the Hawks, she also went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line and grabbed eight rebounds in 35 minutes.
Alex Jurak
Year: 3
Position: Outside Hitter
Alex Jurak played a key role in Mohawk's 3-2 upset win over the No. 11 nationally ranked Humber Hawks. The third-year outside hitter recorded nine kills, three blocks, two digs and a service ace. The victory lifted the Mountaineers above .500, improving their record to 4-3.
Athlete of the Week honours are presented by Booster Juice. Located in the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre, Booster Juice is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
