HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team has climbed to No. 2 in the CCAA national rankings following its seventh straight win to open the 2025-26 season, while the men's team remains at No. 7.

The women moved up two positions after holding the No. 4 ranking for the first three weeks of the season. Mohawk's 7-0 start marks the first time since the 1990-91 campaign the program has opened with seven consecutive victories.

The Mountaineers' most recent win came last Wednesday, a 75-60 victory over the No. 7 Humber Hawks in a rematch of the 2024-25 OCAA championship final. Fifth-year guard Maddie Anderson (Whitby, Ont.) led the way with a career-high 31 points.

All seven of Mohawk's wins have been by double digits, with an average margin of 27.5. The Mountaineers lead the OCAA in points per game and rank second in points against.

On the men's side, despite dropping their only game of the week to the No. 1 ranked Hawks, the Mountaineers held firm at No. 7 for a second straight week. The loss was Mohawk's first of the season and moved the team to 7-1.

Mohawk is one of four OCAA teams ranked inside the top 10 in both points per game and points against. The Mountaineers sit seventh offensively and fourth defensively.

Both teams close out the first half of the season on Nov. 27 when they visit the Conestoga Condors. The women tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
