Mountaineers lose quarter-final match to No. 1 Sting

TORONTO, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer season came to an end in the OCAA quarter-final round following a 3-1 loss to the No. 1 nationally ranked Seneca Sting.

The Sting controlled the ball for a majority of the game, winning the shot battle 16-5.

Seneca broke through with their first goal in the 41st minute on a Mohawk miscue. The first half would end with the Sting leading 1-0.

The next two goals for Seneca would be scored in the 68th and 84th minutes. All three of the Sting goals were scored by Marlene Siwula, who was named the 2024 OCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

In the 89th minute the Mountaineers found the back of the net on a Grace McLellan (Burlington, Ont.) goal to break the Seneca clean sheet.

Samantha DeHaan (Smitville, Ont.) and Mia Hadley (Milton, Ont.) split time in net for Mohawk. DeHaan made five saves on seven shots and Hadley made two saves on three shots.
