Mountaineers win streak snapped by Hawks

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer team had their three-game win streak snapped by the Humber Hawks following a 2-1 loss.

Both teams played a slow-paced match, but it was equal throughout the 90 minutes.

Humber broke through first on a corner kick that found a head in the 23rd minute.

In the 42nd minute – just before half – Jaiden Morgan broke free from the Hawks defence and beat the goalkeeper for her third of the season and evening the match at 1-1.

While the two teams looked to be heading into half at an even game, Humber forwards snuck in behind Mohawk's defence and regained their one goal lead in the 45th minute.

Neither team would score in the second half as they match ended with Humber also leading the shot attempts 19-13.

The loss ends the home portion of the Mountaineers schedule for 2024 as they remain in position to host a potential first round matchup. Mohawk will closeout the season with two road games.

Next up will be a trip to Welland, Ont. to play the Niagara Knights on Oct. 9. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
