Mountaineers remain alive for OCAA medal following loss to Lords

Mohawk softball remains alive with backdoor opportunity

(ETOBICOKE) – For Mohawk Mountaineers softball to have an opportunity at the OCAA Championship they'll have to play through the consolation round after a 7-2 loss to the Durham Lords.

Mohawk had multiple opportunities offensively in the game but couldn't push across additional runs.

The Mountaineers scored a run in both the first and second innings, but were held off the scoreboard after that.

Danika Millen (Milton, ON) batted two-for-two and drove in the first run with a single. Kayla Makowich (Guelph, ON) hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning to bring home the other Mohawk run.

The loss does not mean Mohawk is eliminated from playoffs as they will have a back-door opportunity to play for an OCAA medal. They will play again today (Oct. 20) at 3 p.m. against the St. Clair Saints or Humber Hawks, and a win means they will play in the bronze medal game on Oct. 21.
