Mountaineers hold on to defeat Royals on Super Saturday

Mohawk men’s basketball extends win streak to four

(HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball showed grit in their 95-81 victory over the Redeemer Royals.
 
The Mountaineers had a hot shooting first quarter, scoring 33-points on 68.8 per cent shooting.
 
A zone defence by the Royals presented challenges for Mohawk as their offense cooled off in the second quarter. The Mountaineers still held a 13-point advantage at the break.
 
In the third quarter Redeemer found their momentum and confidence, outscoring Mohawk 26-16 and cutting the Mountaineers lead to three.
 
Mohawk settled in defensively during the final frame to hold the Royals to 28.6 per cent shooting. The Mountaineers put up 28-points in the final 10 minutes on 50 per cent shooting to extend their lead and secure the victory.
 
Jerry Jr. Mercury (Scarborough, ON) once again led Mohawk in scoring with 23 while adding 14 rebounds, four assists and six steals.
 
The Mountaineers had three other starters in double figures with Charlie Hennessy (Windsor, ON) scoring 16, Cale Calura (Hamilton, ON) adding 15 and Raivone Young (Halifax, ON) putting up 10.
 
Mohawk will be back in action on Nov. 9 when they host the Humber Hawks at 8 p.m.
