No. 2 Mountaineers crowned OCAA Champions for first-time in 36 years

KING CITY, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's cross country team is golden following a first-place team finish at the 2024 OCAA Championship.

Ranked number two in the CCAA national rankings, the Mountaineers came into the provincial race having finished first in three invitational events this season.

Annie Sterenberg (Vineland, Ont.) once again led the Mohawk team with the best individual finish, placing fifth overall. Two other Mountaineers joined her in the top-10 with Zoe Thibault (Grimsby, Ont.) and Tori Hendriks (Beamsville, Ont.) finishing seventh and eighth.

Additionally, Raina Hartnell (Waterford, Ont.) completed the race 13^th overall, Lauren Snider (Brantford, Ont.) crossed the finish line in 15^th and Addison Cann placed 27^th.

As a team the Mountaineers finished with a total of 32 points for the first-place result, 19-points better than the second-place Humber Hawks.

With their individual results, Sterenberg and Thibault were honoured to the OCAA All-Ontario First-Team, while Hendriks and Hartnell were recognized to the OCAA All-Ontario Second Team.

Hendriks was also named the 2024 OCAA Cross Country Female Rookie of the Year.

Mohawk's OCAA Championship season comes after having won consecutive bronze medals the past two years. The Mountaineers last gold medal came in 1988.

The Mountaineers officially qualify for the CCAA Championships taking place on Nov. 9 at Malden Park in Windsor, Ont.
