HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers cross country teams delivered another strong performance Saturday at the final invitational meet before the OCAA Championships in two weeks. Competing on home turf at Marydale Park, the Mountaineer men placed first overall, while the women finished third.
Mohawk was led by Gavin Mathieson and Blaise Uglow, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Sage Sulentic also earned a top-10 result, crossing the line in eighth place.
Rounding out the men's lineup were Santiago Mendoza at 16th, Thomas Giammichele placed 27th, Thomas Spring finished 37th and Will Summers crossed the finish line at 39th. The Mountaineers finished 18 points ahead of the second-place St. Clair Saints.
On the women's side, Mohawk tallied 52 points, just 12 shy of the runner-up Fanshawe Falcons. Zoe Crookham led the team with a 10th-place finish, followed by Abril Sena at 12th, Raina Hartnell placed 14th, Addison Cann finished 20th and Tahlia Henry was 21st overall.
The Mountaineer men entered the event ranked No. 3 nationally in the CCAA, with the women sitting at No. 7.
Both teams will now turn their focus to the 2025 OCAA Championships, hosted by Mohawk College on Oct. 25 at Marydale Park. The women's race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
