Mountaineers dealt two losses by Saints

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's softball lost two games to the St. Clair Saints on Wednesday night.
 
The first loss saw St. Clair top Mohawk 18-0. Kayla Makowich (Guelph, Ont.) had the Mountaineers lone hit in the game.
 
Game two also went the Saints way as they defeated the Mountaineers 16-4.
 
Mohawk's first runs of the game came in the bottom of the first when a St. Clair error allowed Makowich to score. Abi Suffel (Whitby, Ont.) would score on a ground out one batter later.
 
Chloe Ferko (Stoney Creek, Ont.) then led off the bottom of the second with her first home run as a Mountaineer. It was a solo shot for Ferko to give Mohawk their third run of the game.
 
Ferko would again score in the bottom of the fourth, crossing the plate after a St. Clair error.
 
The Saints offense did all their damage in the first three innings.
 
With four games remaining on the schedule, the Mountaineers will need to string together victories this upcoming weekend as they closeout the season.
 
Up first for Mohawk will be a doubleheader versus the Fanshawe Falcons in London, Ont. The Mountaineers will make the trip on Oct. 5 with game one beginning at 12 p.m.
