Mountaineers women’s cross country earn first National medal in program history

WINDSOR, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's cross country team has earned a bronze medal at the 2024 CCAA Championships, marking the program's first-ever national medal.

The achievement also marks the first time since 2019 that an OCAA team has earned a podium finish at the CCAA Championships.

The Mountaineers finished just nine-points behind the silver medal-winning Sainte-Foy Dynamiques and 15 points ahead of fourth-place Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Annie Sterenberg (Vineland, Ont.) led the way for Mohawk, finishing 21^st overall. Tori Hendriks (Beamsville, Ont.) and Zoe Thibault (Grimsby, Ont.) both finished in the top 30, with Hendriks placing 29^th and Thibault 30^th.

Raina Hartnell (Waterford, Ont.) was the Mountaineers fourth runner to cross the finish line, placing 42^nd overall. Lauren Snider (Brantford, Ont.) placed 52^nd and Addison Cann (Paris, Ont.) finished 60^th.

The national bronze medal caps off the most successful season in Mohawk women's cross country history, following the team's victory at the 2024 OCAA Championship.

The Mountaineers also claimed the CCAA bronze medal in the newly introduced mixed division, which combined the top three finishers from both the men's and women's races to determine an overall champion. Mohawk's trio of Sterenberg, Hendriks and Thibault, along with Albert Lanting (Caledonia, Ont.), Sage Sulentic (Dundas, Ont.) and Yassin Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.) of the men's team, contributed to the podium-finish.
