Mountaineers season ends at the hands of the Wolves

Mohawk eliminated in OCAA crossover round match

HAMILTON – Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball had their season come to an end following a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25) OCAA crossover round loss to the Algonquin Wolves.

Mohawk entered the playoffs as the west division four seed with Algonquin finishing the regular season as the five seed in the east division.

Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON), whose Mountaineers career comes to an end after three seasons, had a career performance with 21 kills in the four set match.

Mohawk played from behind in the first set due to multiple team errors, but bounced back in the second set to tie the match up at 1-1.

Algonquin would get off to a strong lead in the third set, but Mohawk began to make a push cutting it to 24-23 before the Wolves put that set away, and then concluded the match in the fourth set.

Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) provided the Mountaineers with 12 kills and 14 digs. Stephanie Karatsolias (Milton, ON) came off the bench late in the first set to finish the match with 28 assists.

The loss ends Mohawk's streak of consecutive seasons with an OCAA quarter-final appearance at five and it will be the first time in two years the Mountaineers will not be in a medal match.
