Three first half goals power Mountaineers over Condors

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer took care of business scoring a trio of goals in the first half versus the Conestoga Condors en route to a 3-1 victory.

The Mountaineers got on the board in the first minute of the match when Grace McLellan (Burlington, Ont.) scored her second of the season off a Janelle Lammers (Frankford, Ont.) corner kick.

Then in the 17th minute, Jaiden Morgan (Burlington, Ont.) made a beautiful lead pass to Hannah Kelly (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who buried home Mohawk's second of the game. Kelly's goal was her first of the season.

Morgan was also involved in the Mountaineers third goal when she fired a shot on net, and a rebound found Bernarda Torres (Burlington, Ont.) for the 3-0 advantage. It was Torres' first career OCAA goal.

In extra time of the second half the Condors broke the Mohawk shutout to score their lone goal of the match.

Mia Hadley (Milton, Ont.) was spectacular in net for the Mountaineers, making six saves in the match.

The win was Mohawk's second consecutive as they improve their record to 3-2-1 with four games remaining on the schedule.

On Oct. 2 the Mountaineers will host the Sheridan Bruins for their next match. The game will take place at Tim Hortons Field at 6 p.m.
