Mountaineers lose close matchup on senior night

Mohawk honours eight graduating athletes prior to match

Box Score (HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer lost their final home regular season match 2-1 to the Conestoga Condors.

Prior to the match, the Mountaineers honoured eight graduating student-athletes: Madison Machado (Strathroy, ON), Isabelle Udovc (Grimsby, ON), Cassandra Campanella (Hamilton, ON), Autumn Grayley (Stoney Creek, ON), Erica Cupiraggi (Niagara Falls, ON), Paige Epp (Grimsby, ON), Abigail Woods (Paris, ON) and Aliya Cardona (Stoney Creek, ON).

The loss for Mohawk drops their record to 6-2-1 and out of first-place in the OCAA West.

There was no scoring in the first half of the contest, but Brianna Terceira (Oakville, ON) found the back of the net in the 51^st minute to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 advantage.

However, the Condors answered four minutes later to tie it and then took the lead in the 74^th minute.

The Mountaineers will close out the 2023 season on Oct. 13 when they travel down the QEW to play the Niagara Knights. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Despite the loss to close out the home portion of the season, Mohawk will still host a playoff game on Oct. 18. Details for the match are to be determined.
