Mountaineers hire Geoffrey Benoit as recreation, fitness and youth programming coordinator

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk College's Department of Athletics and Recreation has hired Geoffrey Benoit as recreation, fitness and youth programming coordinator.
 
Benoit joins the Mountaineers after four years with Niagara College's athletic department. He was appointed assistant facility coordinator in 2022 before becoming intercollegiate coordinator in 2023, a position he held for the past three years.
 
"Having spent the last few years immersed in the varsity component of college athletics, I'm excited to dive into creating a strong recreational portfolio at Mohawk," said Benoit. "Mohawk has built a strong reputation in the OCAA, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the department's continued growth in both athletics and recreation."
 
Benoit graduated from Niagara College's Sport Management program in 2022 with an advanced diploma and is completing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Fredericton.
 
Before entering collegiate athletics and recreation, Benoit spent nearly a decade as a security officer and correctional peace officer.
 
"I've known Geoff for a couple of years through the OCAA, and it was clear he would be a great fit at Mohawk," said Matt Ferreira, director of athletics and recreation. "He understands the landscape from both the athletics and recreation perspectives, and we're excited to see what he can do with our intramural and extramural programming while helping expand our youth programming opportunities in the community."
 
Details on Mohawk's intramural and extramural offerings, along with drop-in recreation activities and fitness programs for the 2026-27 academic year, will be announced closer to September.
