HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk College Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the Mountaineers will return to Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) indoor soccer for both men's and women's programs beginning in 2027.
The OCAA approved Mohawk's application earlier this year, allowing the Mountaineers to compete year-round, with outdoor soccer taking place in the fall semester and indoor soccer in the winter semester.
"We're thankful to the OCAA for accepting our indoor soccer application," said Matthew Ferreira, director of athletics and recreation. "This will allow our soccer programs and student-athletes to compete across two semesters, giving us the opportunity to grow and sustain successful programs in both indoor and outdoor soccer."
Mohawk last competed in OCAA indoor soccer in 2020.
Both teams will be led by their current outdoor soccer head coaches, with Paul Giannini guiding the women's program and Davide Massafra leading the men's team.
OCAA indoor soccer is a tournament-based sport, with teams competing in invitational events before advancing to regional championships. Eight teams qualify for the OCAA championship.
Both Mohawk soccer programs are actively recruiting for the 2026-27 indoor and outdoor seasons. Those interested in trying out for the Mountaineers can contact Giannini at paul.giannini@mohawkcollege.ca or Massafra at davide.massafra@mohawkcollege.ca.
