Mohawk pulls out victory over No. 4 Humber

Skyla Minaker scored 19 in return to lineup

(HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball defeated the No. 4 nationally ranked Humber Hawks 65-56.

It's the first regular season victory for the Mountaineers over the Hawks since January 16, 2014.
 
The Mountaineers held the lead for a majority of the game beginning with a 5-0 run in the first minute of the game. Despite the Hawks battling back to take the lead twice throughout, once in the fourth quarter, Mohawk found ways to answer and hold on for the win.
 
After three quarters the Mountaineers held a 41-34 advantage.
 
Two minutes into the fourth, Humber got the Mohawk lead down to three but Skyla Minaker (Sarnia, ON) – who had missed the last two games – put the Mountaineers back up five with 7:20 remaining.
 
At the 5:07 mark the Hawks would tie it up at 48-48 with a three and later take the lead on a free throw.

Maddie Anderson (Whitby, ON) would answer with a three to give Mohawk a 51-50 advantage. The Mountaineers would extend their lead on a 10-2 run and seal the deal.
 
Minaker had a team-leading 19 points and also contributed six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Anderson provided 17 points, her third consecutive double-digit performance. Mohawk also received 14 points and eight rebounds game from Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB).
 
The Mountaineers will now have more than a week off before they play cross-city rival Redeemer Royals on Nov. 18 at 6p.m. in Ancaster, ON.
