Mohawk closes out first half with victory

Mountaineers end 2023 with 7-4 record

HAMILTON – Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball ended the first half of the 2023-24 season with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-19) win over the Conestoga Condors.
 
With the victory the Mountaineers end the first half with a 7-4 record.
 
Mohawk fell behind early, losing the first set after very competitive play from both teams.
 
In the second set the Mountaineers came out with all the energy. While Conestoga made efforts to comeback, Mohawk continued to pull away for a convincing win.
 
Set three was again a close one, but the Mountaineers rallied as a team to take a 2-1 set advantage. Mohawk would carry momentum through into the fourth set for the win.
 
Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) had a spectacular game with a season-high 16 kills, falling one kill shy of tying her career-high. Zicari also had 12 digs and three aces for the match.
 
Thea Spasic (Hamilton, ON) provided 13 digs and Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) had 11.
 
The ball was distributed well by Stephanie Karatsolias (Milton, ON), who set a career-high with 42 assists.
 
Mohawk will resume regular season action on Jan. 12, 2024 when they travel to play the Boreal Vipers. Match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
