Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Mountaineers lose to No. 3 Hawks in three sets

Mohawk win streak halted at two

(ETOBICOKE) – Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball came to life late versus the No. 3 nationally ranked Humber Hawks, but ultimately lost in three sets (12-25, 25-21, 24-26).

The first set was all Hawks as the Mountaineers struggled to put together consecutive points.

Late in the second set the momentum began to turn in Mohawk' direction. Down 21-15 the Mountaineers strung together three consecutive points, but the Hawks would answer to make it 23-18. But then again Mohawk would score three straight to make it 23-21 and force a Humber timeout.

Out of the timeout the Hawks regained momentum to take the second set.

The third set would be played back and forth until the Mountaineers took a 17-14 lead which led to another Humber timeout. After the timeout Mohawk would continue to hold on with the lead, going up 22-20.

It was then a four-point swing for the Hawks to put the set in their favour, 24-22, and setup match point. The Mountaineers would answer with two to tie it 24-24. Humber would again have match point at 25-24 and this time they were able to end any Mohawk comeback.

Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) led the Mountaineers with 10 kills and four aces. Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, ON) was fantastic defensively for Mohawk with 13 digs.

The Mountaineers will now take the weekend off before travelling once again, this time for a match versus the Fanshawe Falcons on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
