No. 10 Mountaineers extend win streak to nine

Mohawk explodes to victory with 29-0 run in first quarter

Box Score HAMILTON – Prior to a matchup versus the Sheridan Bruins on Wednesday night, the No. 10 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers honoured the success of a local Hamilton high school.

Cathedral High School women's basketball team was in attendance at Mohawk to celebrate their third consecutive OFSAA AAA championship and a 90-0 record that spans across three seasons.

To begin the game the Mountaineers found themselves down early, trailing the Bruins 8-4. Mohawk would respond in a big way, ending the first quarter on a 29-0 run to lead 33-8.

Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB) would finish with 12 points in the contest, all of which came in the opening quarter.

The Mountaineers struggled offensively in the second quarter, shooting six-of-22, but their defence continued to stand tall to hold onto a 25-point advantage at halftime.

Coming out of the break Mohawk played 10 minutes of team-basketball, receiving a total of 22 points combined from eight players. The Mountaineers continued to keep the game out of reach for the Bruins throughout the second half to come away with the win.

Maddie Anderson (Whitby, ON) finished with a team-high 14 points and Tatjana Boskovic (Hamilton, ON) had a near double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Off the bench Tiffany Williams (Hamilton, ON) added 12 points.

Mohawk as a team had 22 assists on 33 made field goals and scored 42 points off 33 Sheridan turnovers.

With the victory the Mountaineers have now won nine straight and improve to 9-1 on the season.

Mohawk will head to Sarnia, ON for their next matchup versus the Lambton Lions on Jan. 19 with tip-off at 6 p.m.
