Mountaineers early season road success continues in victory versus Falcons

LONDON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball won their second consecutive match to begin the 2024-25 season, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-21). Both wins for Mohawk this season have come on the road.
 
It was a slow start for the Mountaineers in the opening set as they fell behind 12-5. Mohawk would even it up at 13-13 forcing a Fanshawe timeout. The two teams would trade points the remainder of the set before the Mountaineers capped it off on an Olivia Rosewell (Hamilton, Ont.) service ace.
 
Mohawk would have control for most of the second set, but Fanshawe at times were able to bring it even. But at 21-21, the Mountaineers would score the next four points for the win.
 
The third set was much of the same with back and forth play. Mohawk got some breathing room scoring three consecutive to take an 18-15 lead. With match point at 24-21, the Falcons served into the net to give the Mountaineers the win.
 
Thea Spasic (Hamilton, Ont.) led Mohawk with 12 kills and eight digs. Rosewell impressed with 10 kills and Megan Battersby (Welland, Ont.) distributed the ball well with 23 assists.
 
The Mountaineers will hold a 2-0 record ahead of their home opener on Oct. 26 when they host the Conestoga Condors. Game time will be at 1 p.m. inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.
