Mountaineers lose to No. 1 nationally ranked Hawks

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer lost 4-0 to the No. 1 nationally ranked Humber Hawk, extending a losing streak to six.
 
Despite the score, the Mountaineers played a fantastic match versus the undefeated Hawks, particularly in the first half.
 
Mohawk's had the best chance of the first half when Hamza Salman (Hamilton, Ont.) was taken down in the Humber box for a penalty kick. Salman's shot attempt to the left of the net was saved by Hawks goalkeeper Daniel Sanei.
 
Later in the first half, the Mountaineers created an opportunity off a corner kick and Salman would find the back of the net, but the goal was called off by the official due to offside.
 
The two teams would go into halftime tied 0-0.
 
Mohawk continued to match every move of Humber, but the even game was broken in the 75th minute. The Hawks goal was scored in a controversial situation where there was no signal from the official to resume play on a free-kick, and Humber would capitalize.   
 
The Hawks would add three additional goals in the final 15 minutes of the match.
 
Ben Temple (London, Ont.), making his first-ever start, played a fantastic game in net for Mohawk, making 10 of 14 stops.
 
The Mountaineers will now prepare for the Niagara Knights for a road matchup on Oct. 9. Action will take place in Welland, Ont. at 8 p.m.
