Second consecutive loss for No. 13 Mountaineers men’s basketball

HAMILTON, Ont. – The No. 13 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team lost their second consecutive game, falling to the Sheridan Bruins 93-73.
 
It was the worst offensive performance by the Mountaineers this season as they shot 31.9 per cent from field, 23.3 per cent from three and missed 15 free throws.
 
Mohawk dug themselves a hole early, falling behind 9-0 in the first 2:30 of the contest. The Mountaineers did shoot 50 per cent from the field in the first quarter and only trailed the Bruins by one, 24-23.
 
In the second quarter, Mohawk continued to hang around, but a couple Sheridan runs ended the first half favouring the Bruins 49-41.
 
Late in the third quarter, Sheridan grew their lead to 24. Mohawk closed out the quarter on an 11-0 run to bring the Bruins lead to 72-59.
 
The offensive woes only continued for the Mountaineers in the fourth quarter. Sheridan would take their biggest lead of 26-points with 3:12 remaining, while Mohawk made only four field goals in the final quarter.
 
Raivone Young (Halifax, NS) did provide the Mountaineers with 16 points, while Charlie Hennessy (Windsor, Ont.) and Eltom Adam (Hamilton, Ont.) both came off the bench to score 13 and 11, respectively.
 
Mohawk will look to bounce back on Nov. 13 when they travel to Welland, Ont. to play the Niagara Knights with start time scheduled for 8 p.m.
