Anderson's career-high 30 lifts Mountaineers past Lions

SARNIA, Ont. - A career-high 30 points from Maddie Anderson (Whitby, Ont.) powered the Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team past the Lambton Lions, 78-68.

In the first quarter the Mountaineers and Lions went back and forth trading threes with both teams knocking down three triples each.

Early foul trouble for Mohawk in the quarter would help Lambton stay level at 21-21.
  
The Mountaineers offense would find its rhythm in the second, scoring 24 points, led by Anderson knocking down three from beyond the arc. 
 
Mohawk would take a 45-35 lead at halftime with Anderson scoring 22 of her 30 in the opening 20 minutes. 

Coming out of the break the Mountaineers got off to a sluggish start offensively as their first points of the half didn't come until the five minute mark of the third. 

Lambton started the quarter on a 10-0 run to bring the game even at 45-45. 

Mohawk managed to escape the quarter with a 58-52 lead thanks to five points from the free throw line.

In the final quarter, the Mountaineers pulled together as a team offensively to close the door on the Lions. 

Along with Anderson's big performance, Mohawk recieved 16 points from Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB). Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mountaineers will look to end the 2024 portion of their schedule on a high note as they host the Conestoga Condors on Nov. 30 at 1 p.m.
