Strong offense guides Mountaineers to win over Condors

HAMILTON, Ont. – An impressive offensive game from the Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team resulted in a 92-71 victory over the Conestoga Condors.
 
As a team the Mountaineers shot 45.9 per cent from the field and knocked down a season-high 15 threes. Mohawk's defence also played a role in the win, forcing 20 turnovers which led to 23 points.
 
The opening quarter was the Mountaineers best offensively as they shot 61.1 per cent and made six threes, outscoring the Condors 31-16.
 
For the remainder of the game the scoreboard was much closer, but Mohawk continued to expand their lead as they were up 18 at halftime.
 
The Mountaineers only outscored the Condors by three points in the second half, but their largest lead of the game of 31-points came with 4:04 left in the fourth quarter.
 
Kazim Raza (Markham, Ont.) came off the bench to lead Mohawk with 16 points on four made threes. Marko Dosen (Hamilton, Ont.) supplied 15 points and Charlie Hennessy (Windsor, Ont.) also knocked down four threes for 14 points.
 
A much needed four-week break will now come for the Mountaineers. They will then play in four non-conference games which will include two versus OUA opponents in late-December followed by two against OCAA east division teams in early January.
 
The regular season will resume for Mohawk on Jan. 8 when they play the Condors again. Action will take place in Kitchener, Ont. at 8 p.m.
