Mountaineers basketball teams post strong exhibition results over holiday break

| Box Score 3 The Mohawk Mountaineers women's and men's basketball teams combined for a 4-2 record during exhibition play over the holiday break.

The men's team split their four games over the last two weekends, with both losses coming against OUA opponents. The Mountaineers fell 84-72 to the Western Mustangs on December 28 and then narrowly lost 81-79 to the York Lions on Dec. 29.

However, the Mohawk men's squad bounced back this weekend, earning two impressive victories against OCAA East Division teams. The Mountaineers defeated the Centennial Colts 85-79 on January 3 and overpowered the George Brown Huskies 104-78 on Jan. 4.

On the women's side, Mohawk also faced two OCAA east division teams and came out victorious in both contests. A stifling defensive effort against the Durham Lords on Jan. 3 resulted in an 82-37 Mountaineers win, and the women followed it up with a solid 66-58 triumph over the Georgian Grizzlies on Jan. 4.

Heading into the second half of the 2024-25 regular season, the Mohawk men's team holds a 7-3 record, while the women's team sits at 6-3.

Both teams will resume conference play on Jan. 8, traveling to Kitchener, Ont. to face the Conestoga Condors. The women's game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
