Mohawk College Mountaineers launch annual Bernetta Scime Holiday Toy Drive

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk College's Department of Athletics and Recreation is proud to announce the launch of its 2024 Bernetta Scime Holiday Toy Drive.

This heartwarming initiative, organized by Mountaineer student-athletes, has been a cherished tradition for several years, bringing together the Mohawk community to collect toys and essential toiletries for children and families in need during the holiday season.

Each year, the Mohawk Athletics Department partners with a local Hamilton-based organization to ensure the donations reach those who will benefit most. For 2024, all donations will support the Eva Rothwell Centre, a local non-profit dedicated to providing essential community services, including health and wellness program, educational initiatives, and welcoming space for individuals and families to belong.

How to Help:
Accepted Donations: New, unwrapped toys (ages 5-18) and basic personal hygiene items.
Deadline for Donations: December 11, 2024
Drop-off Location: Donations can be dropped off at R105 in the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre (DBARC), located at the bottom of the stairwell across from the main gymnasium, or at the DBARC front desk.

Additionally, for the month of November, all Mohawk varsity home games will feature an admission fee of one new toy or personal hygiene item, encouraging fans to contribute while enjoying the action.

"We're excited to continue this annual tradition and give back to our Hamilton community," said Matthew Ferreira, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Through the support of our student-athletes and the broader Mohawk College community, we can make a meaningful difference for families in need this holiday season."
