PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Mountaineers welcome Lancers for OCAA qualifying round game

HAMILTON – Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball enters the 2023-24 OCAA Playoffs following a 12-4 regular season – their best record since the 2017-18 season.

They'll host the Loyalist Lancers, who finished season play with a 5-9 record out of the OCAA East Division.

The Matchup:

Despite starting the season with a loss, the Mountaineers first half was highlighted by an eight-game winning streak that had them leading the OCAA West Division. It took Mohawk just seven games to surpass their win total from last season.

The success for the Mountaineers took a turn in the second half when they lost three consecutive games to the top three teams in the west. However, Mohawk bounced back and closed out the season with three straight wins.

Loyalist comes into the playoff match having lost their final three games of the season and four of their last five. It should be noted that six of the Lancers nine losses came with a point differential of eight points or less.

Previous Matchup and History:

The last documented game between the Mountaineers and Lancers came on Oct. 26, 2002 during exhibition play. Loyalist defeated Mohawk 61-54.
