Mountaineers advance to OCAA quarterfinals with 52-point win

Maddie Anderson leads all scorers with 22

HAMILTON – Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball dominated to begin OCAA playoffs, defeating the Loyalist Lancers 90-38.
 
In the OCAA qualifying round game Maddie Anderson (Whitby, ON) led all scorers with 22 points. Lauren Snider (Brantford, ON) came off the bench to provide 12 points on six-of-eight shooting and Tatjana Boskovic (Hamilton, ON) scored 11.
 
The Mountaineers led the entire way, beginning with a 10-0 run in the first four minutes of the game. Mohawk held a 22-7 lead after the first.
 
Loyalist showed some push to start the second by scoring the first six points of the quarter and they'd get the Mohawk lead down to eight. But it would be all Mountaineers the rest of the way as the home squad took a 44-20 lead into halftime.
 
Mohawk go up 35 points after three quarters and their biggest lead of 54 points came with 50 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
As a team the Mountaineers shot 48.7 per cent from the field and had 26 assists on 38 made field goals. Mohawk also won the rebounding battle 41-27.
 
The Mountaineers advance to the OCAA quarter-final round next weekend where they will meet the OCAA East Division one seed Algonquin Wolves in the nation's capital. Date and time for the game are still to be determined.
