Mountaineers climb back to defeat Condors

KITCHENER, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball found themselves trailing by 14 at halftime, but they were able to turn things around in the second half for an 86-74 win over the Conestoga Condors.
 
The Mountaineers shot a inefficient 31.4 per cent from the field in the first half of the contest. After the first quarter the deficit was only six, but the Condors went on an 8-0 run in the second to grow their lead into halftime.
 
Coming out of the break Mohawk went on a run of their own to even the scoring at 51-51 with 1:27 left in the third quarter. The Mountaineers would lead 57-53 at the end of the third after outscoring the Condors by 18 in the quarter.
 
The fourth quarter followed the offensive theme of the third for Mohawk as their shooting in the second half improved to 57.9 per cent. With 28 seconds left in the game the Mountaineers grew the lead to 12-points, their largest of the game.
 
Iverson Chong (Oakville, Ont.) scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter. Marko Dosen (Hamilton, Ont.) was a rebound shy of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Raivone Young (Halifax, NS) provided 19 points on 50 per cent shooting.
 
Mohawk's next contest will be at home when they host the Niagara Knights on January 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:20 p.m following a pre-game ceremony.
