Dahawy’s career-high 20 carries Mountaineers to victory

KITCHENER, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball began the second half of the 2024-25 season in similar fashion to the end of the first half – with a 64-47 win over the Conestoga Condors.
 
The Mountaineers played from behind early in the opening quarter, but closed out the frame on a 12-4 run to lead 19-14.
 
Mohawk's offense struggled in the second quarter, only making four field goals and scoring 10 points. Conestoga would rally back to even the score before halftime at 29-29.
 
The third quarter belonged to Malak Dahawy as the first-year guard scored 10 of her career-high 20 points to pull the Mountaineers back out in front 45-38.
 
Mohawk's defence also stood tall in the second half, holding Conestoga to 18 points on 28 per cent shooting.
 
The Mountaineers had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, scoring 19 points on 61.5 per cent shooting.
 
Dahawy scored her game-high 20 on eight-of-12 shooting and picked up six rebounds. Kendra Oliver picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB) was another efficient scorer for Mohawk with 14 points on seven-of-13 shooting.
 
The Mountaineers will look to keep up their winning ways when they host the No. 13 nationally ranked Niagara Knights on January 11 at 1 p.m.
