Hamilton, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team earned their second win of the 2025-26 season on Wednesday night, defeating the Sheridan Bruins 3-1.
Mohawk opened strong, building a narrow 13-11 advantage in the first set before pulling away by scoring 12 of the next 16 points to take it 25-15.
The Mountaineers carried that momentum into the second set, cruising to a 25-17 win and a 2-0 match lead.
Sheridan battled back in the third, erasing a 14-10 deficit and drawing even at 21-21. The Bruins completed the comeback to extend the match with a 27-25 victory.
In the fourth, Mohawk seized control midway through the set with a six-point run to go up 19-11 and never looked back, closing out the win 25-14.
Dean Zicari (Burlington, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with a game-high 14 kills, while Josh Taylor (Hamilton, Ont.) added 10. Setter Brecken Morrison (Stouffville, Ont.) stood out with 42 assists and seven service aces.
The Mountaineers will look to build on their strong start when they travel to Windsor, Ont., on Saturday to take on the St. Clair Saints. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
