NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team extended its season-opening win streak to four with a dominant 104-58 victory over the Canadore Panthers on Saturday.

The Mountaineers got off to a slow start, trailing 7-2 early and later falling behind by 13 after a 17-3 Panthers run. Mohawk responded with a strong finish to the first quarter to cut the deficit to 26-22.

Both teams traded baskets early in the second before Mohawk tightened up defensively, holding the Panthers to just 10 points in the frame. The Mountaineers closed the half on a 14-0 run to take control of the game.

Mohawk's defence continued to shine after the break, limiting Canadore to one field goal and seven total points in the third quarter. The Mountaineers shot 50 per cent from the field in the period to build a 72-43 lead heading into the fourth.

Mohawk outscored Canadore by 14 in the final quarter to close out the 46-point win.

The Mountaineers shot 50.6 per cent from the field, outrebounded the Panthers 47-30 and scored 29 points off turnovers.

Iverson Chong (Oakville, Ont.) and Marko Dosen (Hamilton, Ont.) led the offence with 17 points each, while Dosen added a double-double with 11 rebounds. Eltom Adam (Hamilton, Ont.) also chipped in with 16 points.

Mohawk returns home on Nov. 7 to host the St. Clair Saints at 8 p.m.
