WELLAND, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Niagara Knights on Wednesday night.

After early back-and-forth play, the Mountaineers fell behind 7-3 in the opening set. The deficit grew to 13-6, prompting a Mohawk timeout. The Mountaineers clawed back to within two, but Niagara pulled away again to take the set 25-18.

Niagara opened the second set with a 4-0 run, but Mohawk found its footing midway through, pulling even at 14-14. Tied 17-17, the Mountaineers surged ahead 21-18, forcing a Knights timeout. Niagara battled back to 22-22, but after trading points to 23-23, Mohawk claimed the final two for the set win.

The third set remained within reach for Mohawk, with Niagara never leading by more than three. The Mountaineers repeatedly cut the gap to one, but the Knights closed out the frame 25-20.

Niagara carried early momentum again in the fourth and never relinquished control. Mohawk continued to stay within striking distance but couldn't pull level, falling 25-21 as the Knights secured the match.

Alex Jurak (St. Catharines, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with 10 kills, while Dean Zicari (Burlington, Ont.) and Micah Dijkema (Hamilton, Ont.) added nine apiece. Jordan Ho finished with 20 digs.

Mohawk closes out its 2025 schedule on Nov. 29 when it hosts the Conestoga Condors at 3 p.m.
