OSHAWA, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team saw their playoff run come to an end in the OCAA Quarter-Finals, falling 98-87 to the No. 8 nationally ranked Durham Lords. This marks the second consecutive year the Mountaineers have been eliminated in the quarter-final round.
The Mountaineers held a narrow 16-12 lead with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter, but the Lords went on a 14-3 run to take a 26-19 advantage by the end of the frame.
Mohawk trimmed Durham's lead to just four points with 6:38 left in the first half. However, the Lords closed out the quarter strong again, extending their lead to 15 points by halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the Mountaineers ramped up their defensive pressure, holding Durham to only 17 points in the third quarter and outscoring the Lords by 10. At the end of the third, Durham led 73-68.
Despite Mohawk's continued fight in the fourth quarter, where they trailed by just seven with 4:20 remaining, Durham went on another decisive run. With 52 seconds left, the Mountaineers' deficit grew to 14 points, extinguishing any hopes of a comeback.
Dante Richards (Oakville, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with 21 points, while Kazim Raza (Markham, Ont.) provided a spark off the bench with 20 points. Marko Dosen added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mountaineers' 2024-25 season concludes in the quarter-final round after an 11-7 regular season record.
