LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team made history by capturing the program's first-ever national championship at the 2025 CCAA Curling Canada Championships.
The Mountaineers advanced to the final after a dominant 9-3 victory over the Sault Cougars in the semi-final.
In the gold medal game, Mohawk faced the SAIT Trojans, a team they had struggled against in recent years. In the past two national championships, the Mountaineers had lost three matchups to SAIT.
The game opened with a blank first end before Mohawk got on the scoreboard in the second end, taking a 2-0 lead. The Trojans responded with two points in the third to even the score. Both teams played another blank end in the fourth. Mohawk regained the lead with a single point in the fifth, but SAIT surged ahead with two points in the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage.
The Mountaineers bounced back in the seventh, scoring two points to reclaim a 5-4 lead. They sealed the win with three points in the eighth end, securing an 8-4 victory and the national championship.
Jacob Jones (Brantford, Ont.), Joel Matthews (Waterdown, Ont.), Jarrett Matthews (Waterdown, Ont.) and Eric Just (Ancaster, Ont.) were all named CCAA Championship First-Team All-Stars.
Since 2022, the Mohawk men's curling program has now claimed four OCAA gold medals and three CCAA medals.
