Sixth straight OCAA podium finish for men’s curling

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team earned its sixth straight podium finish at the OCAA Championships on Saturday and secured its fourth consecutive berth to the CCAA/Curling Canada Championships.

Mohawk captured the bronze medal at the provincial championships, ending its run of four straight OCAA titles. It marked the first time since 2019 the Mountaineers did not reach the championship final.

In the semifinals, Mohawk fell 8-5 to the Humber Hawks. The Mountaineers scored two points in both the first and third ends but surrendered the lead in the second and fourth, leaving the match tied 4-4. Mohawk regained the lead with a single point in the fifth, but Humber answered in the sixth. The Hawks then scored one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to seal the win.

In the bronze medal game, Mohawk defeated the Durham Lords 7-3. The Mountaineers opened with three points in the first end and added one in the second to take a 4-0 lead. After Durham scored in the third, Mohawk extended its advantage in the fourth and fifth to go up 7-1. The Lords added single points in the sixth and seventh before the teams shook hands.

Mohawk skip Thomas Del-Conte (Stoney Creek, Ont.) was named to the OCAA First-Team Championship All-Star team.

The bronze medal is the 14th OCAA medal in program history and the seventh in the past 10 years.

Mohawk will compete at the CCAA/Curling Canada Championships from Feb. 16-20 in Regina, Sask.
