Rodriguez scores first career goal in Mountaineers win

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer team has started the 2025 OCAA season 2-0 after their second consecutive 1-0 victory, defeating the Redeemer Royals on Friday night.
 
First-year goalkeeper Victoria Kerr (Stoney Creek, Ont.) earned the clean sheet with a five-save performance.
 
Fellow rookie Madison Rodriguez (Hamilton, Ont.) stole the spotlight when she scored her first career goal and the only one of the match in the 77th minute. The strike came from 30 yards out, sailing over Redeemer goalkeeper Sarah de Jong.
 
Mohawk was outshot in the contest by Redeemer 13-8, while both teams had four corners for the game.
 
It marks the second time in the past three season the Mountaineers have opened the year with back-to-back wins.
 
Next up for Mohawk is a road matchup versus the Fanshawe Falcons in London, Ont. on Sept. 14 at 12 p.m.
