Mountaineers handed first loss of season

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer team dropped their first match of the season Friday night, a 1-0 loss to the St. Clair Saints.
 
The two sides were even with nine shots apiece, but the Saints broke through in the 56th minute of the game's only goal. St. Clair also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Goalkeeper Victoria Kerr (Stoney, Ont.) played the opening half for Mohawk and recorded three saves. Mia Hadley (Milton, Ont.) came on for the second half and stopped one shot.
 
The Mountaineers return to action Saturday afternoon when they host the Lambton Lions at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School.
