Mountaineers compete versus Ontario universities at Don Mills Open

WATERLOO, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers cross country teams tested themselves against Ontario University Athletics competition at the Don Mills Open on Saturday.

The men's team turned in a strong performance, finishing seventh overall and placing as the top college team in the field, ahead of four OUA schools.

Gavin Mathieson (Cayuga, Ont.) led the way for Mohawk with a 19^th-place finish out of 141 runners. Blaise Uglow (Schomeberg, Ont.) was 23^rd, Christian Jarosz (Burlington, Ont.) 46^th, Sage Sulentic (Dundas, Ont.) 57^th, Santiago Mendoza (Mississauga, Ont.) 77^th, Thomas Giammichele (Carlisle, Ont.) 89^th, Bart Podhorski-Okolow (Oakville, Ont.) 102^nd and Will Summers (Hamilton, Ont.) 107^th.

On the women's side, Mohawk did not field a full team but earned solid individual results. Abril Sena (Mendoza, Argentina) and Zoe Thibault (Grimsby, Ont.) placed 57^th and 58^th, respectively, while Raina Hartnell (Waterford, Ont.) finished 69^th and Addison Cann (Paris, Ont.) 78^th out of 107 participants.

The Mountaineers return to OCAA competition on Oct. 4 at the Fanshawe Invitational.
