Mountaineers can’t hold lead in loss to Condors

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer team held a second-half lead but surrendered two goals in quick succession and fell 2-1 to the Conestoga Condors on Saturday.

The first half was quiet until the 44th minute when Mohawk broke free on a two-on-one. The Mountaineers found the back of the net, but the goal was called back for offside, sending the teams into halftime scoreless.

Mohawk struck in the 60th minute when a Madison Rodriguez (Hamilton, Ont.) corner kick connected with Hannah Kelly (Niagara Falls, Ont.), who headed home her team-leading third goal of the season.

The lead was short-lived, as Conestoga equalized four minutes later before adding the winner in the 73rd minute.

The Mountaineers will try to halt their two-game losing skid on Oct. 1 when they host the Sheridan Bruins at 6 p.m. in their final home match of the season.
