HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's softball team picked up their first win of the 2025 season, splitting a doubleheader with the Conestoga Condors on Sunday. Mohawk took the opener 3-2 before dropping the second game 10-8.
In Game 1, the Mountaineers rallied late for a walk-off win. Trailing 2-0 after three innings, Ashlee LaForme (New Credit, Ont.) cut the deficit in half with a solo home run to centre field.
In the seventh, Maggie Lupton (Binbrook, Ont.) singled to score Genevieve Fry (Beamsville, Ont.) and tie the game, while also advancing Renelle Bourque (Dieppe, N.B.) to third. With two outs and the bases loaded, Tahlia Henry (Grand Valley, Ont.) delivered a base hit to bring home Bourque for the winning run.
LaForme went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs and striking out two.
Game 2 featured plenty of offense from both sides. After Conestoga plated four in the top of the third, Mohawk responded with six runs in the bottom half. The rally was highlighted by RBI doubles from LaForme, Bourque and Taylor McCrae (Milton, Ont.), as well as an RBI single from Ashka Pieris-Stevens (Milton, Ont.)
The Mountaineers extended their lead to 7-4 in the fourth, but Conestoga battled back with two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to go ahead 10-7.
Lupton doubled home Bourque in the seventh to cut the deficit to two, but Henry was unable to replicate her earlier heroics with the tying run on second base.
Mohawk visits the Durham Lords in Oshawa, Ont., on Oct. 3 for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
