KING CITY, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team saw its season end Saturday with a straight-sets loss to the No. 3 nationally ranked Seneca Sting in the OCAA qualifying round.
The loss snapped a long postseason streak for Mohawk, which had won four consecutive playoff matches against Seneca dating back to the 2001–02 season.
Seneca entered the match undefeated and first in the OCAA East Division, while Mohawk qualified as the eighth seed from the West.
Mohawk opened strong in the first set, building a 12-8 lead before Seneca responded with a run to tie the score. The Sting continued their momentum, pulling ahead 17-13 and forcing a Mohawk timeout, before closing out the set 25-17.
Seneca again took control early in the second set, jumping out to a 9-3 lead and extending the advantage to seven. Mohawk cut the deficit to three, but the Sting maintained the pressure and took the set 25-17.
The third set followed a similar pattern. Seneca opened with a 9-3 lead, but Mohawk battled back to within three at 12-9. The Sting answered with six straight points to build an 18-9 advantage. After pushing the lead to 20-12, Seneca closed the match with five consecutive points to complete the sweep.
Avery McConkey (Stratford, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with eight kills, while Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, Ont.) anchored the defence with nine digs.
Mohawk concludes the 2025–26 season with a 6-10 record and a first-round playoff exit.
