No. 2 Mountaineers win 25th OCAA medal in program history

HAMILTON, Ont. – The No. 2 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team captured its 25th OCAA medal in program history and second in two years with a 106-64 victory over the Loyalist Lancers in Sunday's bronze medal game.
 
It was the third time since the calendar has turned to 2026 that Mohawk surpassed the century mark for points, previously scoring 118 in an exhibition game against Georgian and 111 versus Sheridan.
 
Mohawk opened the scoring with an 18-0 run against Loyalist and led 32-11 after the first quarter. The Mountaineers extended their advantage to 34 points by halftime.
 
The second half was more even, but Mohawk pushed its lead to a game-high 51 points with 3:37 remaining.
 
The Mountaineers shot 50 per cent from the field, knocked down 13 three-pointers and outrebounded the Lancers 42-28.
 
Maddie Anderson (Whitby, Ont.) earned Player of the Game honours with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) was named an OCAA Championship All-Star after picking up two double-doubles across two games, including 19 points and 17 rebounds in the bronze game.
 
Other double digit scorers for Mohawk included Joanna Smith (Simcoe, Ont.) with 20, Malak Dahawy (Waterloo, Ont.) scored 15 and Tiffany Williams (Hamilton, Ont.) finished with 13.
 
The Mountaineers medal count for its women's basketball program now stands at seven championships, nine silvers and nine bronze medals. The 25 total medals is tied for second with Humber for most amongst all OCAA programs.
