Playoff Preview: Mountaineers matchup versus No. 1 Sting in quarter-finals

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer will look to keep their playoff journey going when they kick-off versus the No. 1 nationally ranked Seneca Sting.

The two teams will play at Newnham Field in Toronto, Ont. on Oct. 19 with the start time set for 1 p.m.

The Matchup:

Mohawk advanced in the OCAA playoffs following a 3-1 road victory over the Conestoga Condors in the qualifying round. The Mountaineers received goals from Jaiden Morgan (Burlington, Ont.), Alyssa Glasbergen (Burlington, Ont.) and Emily Schwarz (Stoney Creek, Ont.).

Seneca – the 2023 OCAA champions – won their first round matchup versus the Loyalist Lancers. The Sting scored five goals in the shutout victory.

It has been a dominating season for Seneca, who finished the season with a 9-0-1 record and earned the first seed in the OCAA east. The Sting also only conceded three goals while scoring 59 on the season.

Last Meeting:

The last time Mohawk and Seneca matched up was on Oct. 19, 2013, which also happened to be an OCAA quarter-final match. In that match the Sting defeated the Mountaineers 1-0.

They also played a preseason match in 2023, with Seneca winning that match 4-2.
