Mountaineers begin Indiana trip with 2-1 win over Holy Cross

NOTRE DAME, INDIANA – Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer began non-conference play with a 2-1 victory on Thursday (Aug. 15) over the Holy Cross Saints.
 
It was the Mountaineers first of two matches in Indiana versus varsity collegiate programs from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
 
Both Mohawk goals came in the first half beginning in the 17th minute when Emily Schwarz (Stoney Creek, Ont.) found the back of the net. The Mountaineers 2023 scoring leader, Jaiden Morgan (Burlington, Ont.) would add to the Mohawk lead in the 32nd minute.
 
The host Saints, out of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, would cut the Mountaineers lead in half just before half.
 
In the second half the match would go scoreless as Mohawk came away with the win to start their 2024 exhibition schedule.
 
The Mountaineers will wrap-up their Indiana trip on Friday (Aug. 16) when they play the Indiana University South Bend Titans at 9 a.m.
