Mountaineers women’s curling begin new year at Mac Invitational

HAMILTON, Ont. –  The new year for the Mohawk Mountaineers women's curling team began with competition against OUA programs at the McMaster Invitational this weekend.

Over the course of the two-day event, Mohawk played in four games but was unable to secure a victory, losing all four matches.

The opening game of the invitational was the closest for the Mountaineers, as they faced off against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Despite falling behind 2-0 after the first end, Mohawk battled back to take a 3-2 lead after three ends. Toronto regained the advantage with one point in each of the fourth and fifth ends, but the Mountaineers tied it up 4-4 after six. In the seventh, Mohawk conceded a point, ultimately losing 5-4.

The Mountaineers' next games saw them defeated 7-1 by the York Lions, 11-2 by the Trent Excalibur, and 9-1 by the Brock Badgers.

This marked Mohawk's third invitational against OUA opponents in the 2024-25 season.

Looking ahead, the Mountaineers will get their first taste of OCAA competition when they host their own invitational. The Mountaineers Bonspiel will take place at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club on January 11, with the first round of games starting at 8:30 a.m.
