Second straight OCAA bronze for Mohawk women’s curling

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's curling team captured its second consecutive OCAA bronze medal on Saturday, earning another berth to the CCAA/Curling Canada Championships.

Mohawk dropped a hard-fought semifinal in extra ends, falling 5-4 to the Humber Hawks. The Mountaineers trailed 3-0 after two ends but cut the deficit to one by the end of the fourth. Humber added a single in the fifth to make it 4-2 before a blank sixth end. Mohawk then scored one in both the seventh and eighth ends to force an extra end, where the Hawks secured the one-point victory.

In the bronze medal match, Mohawk dominated the Durham Lords. The Mountaineers took a 3-0 lead through two ends and, after Durham scored one in the third, added three in the fourth for a 6-1 advantage. Mohawk followed with single points in the fifth and sixth and then scored two more in the seventh to close out a 10-1 win.

Mohawk lead Jordyn Quait (Niagara Falls, Ont.) was named to the OCAA First-Team Championship All-Star team, while skip Madison Babcock (Lindsay, Ont.) earned Second-Team Championship All-Star honours.

The Mountaineers will now prepare for the CCAA/Curling Canada Championships, scheduled for Feb. 16-20 in Regina, Sask.
