HAMILTON, Ont. – One day after earning OCAA athlete of the week honours, Madison Babcock (Lindsay, Ont.) was named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) athlete of the week by the national office on Wednesday.
Babcock is the first Mohawk student-athlete to receive the CCAA weekly award during the 2025-26 varsity season.
The first-year student-athlete served as skip for the Mountaineers women's curling team at the Mohawk Bonspiel this past weekend, leading the team to a 2-1 record. Babcock has been a key contributor throughout the Mountaineers' exhibition bonspiel schedule, consistently delivering in high-pressure situations.
Curling is not Babcock's primary sport, as she was recruited to Mohawk to compete with the women's softball program. She appeared in three games last season and has quickly translated her athleticism and competitive mindset to the ice. Her ability to adapt to a new sport while assuming a leadership role has made her a positive example for her teammates.
Babcock will look to help lead Mohawk back to the provincial podium after the program captured bronze in 2025. The OCAA championship is scheduled for Feb. 4-8 at the Dixie Curling Club in Mississauga, Ont.
