HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team earned their first victory of the 2025-26 season with a straight-sets win over the Sheridan Bruins, 3-0, on Wednesday night.
Mohawk dominated from the opening serve, cruising to a 25-11 win in the first set.
Sheridan responded in the second, taking early control with a 9-5 lead and later extending the gap to 23-16. The Mountaineers mounted an impressive comeback, scoring nine straight points to steal the set 25-23 and take a 2-0 advantage.
The third set featured back-and-forth action before Mohawk pulled ahead 12-9 and maintained control to close out the match 25-19, completing the sweep.
Kyrah Cameron (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with nine kills, while Megan Battersby (Welland, Ont.) supplied 27 assists. Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, Ont.) anchored the defence with a team-high eight digs.
Mohawk will now hit the road to face the St. Clair Saints in Windsor, Ont., on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
